Savitribai Phule (1831 – 1897) was a social reformer and poet who worked very hard to improve women's rights in India under British rule. She founded the first school for young women along with her husband at Bhide Wada in Pune in 1848. Savitribai worked extremely hard to abolish discrimination and unfair treatment of people based on caste and gender.
